[ The very second it becomes the 5th, Naegi can hear a voice suddenly yelling: ]

[The voice startles him awake out of a deep sleep, nearly sending him rolling off to the floor before he's able to catch himself, and for a blind moment Naegi thinks his sister is actually in his room. It takes a bit for him to remember where he is and the fact that they have amulets to communicate with telepathically, but when he does, Naegi manages a quiet and sheepish chuckle.]

Komaru, you didn't have to stay up late to wish me a happy birthday... [But he smiles, warm and fond.] Thank you, though. It's really sweet.

But I wanted to be the first one! [ So staying up was the only way that she could win against Kirigiri, who has the advantage of living with him. ] And this is the first time that we can celebrate your birthday together, ever since...you know...

[ The Tragedy happened. She got imprisoned. He got caught up in Enoshima's mutual killing game. So many events that happened, but instead of stating them aloud, she simply trails the sentence off. There's no need to dampen her brother's birthday with what they already know. ]

So, what are you doing right now? You're not busy, are you?

[He knows exactly what that pause holds. But Naegi smiles, warm and fond. It's not the day to linger on such things.] ...Yeah. Celebrating together would be really nice.

But I... [Naegi gives one last longing, lingering look at his warm bed, where he'd caught a handful of hours before having to give it up now. The things he has to sacrifice as the older brother.] ...No, I wasn't really doing anything important. Did you want to do something together now? Although, [he chuckles sheepishly] I think Kirigiri-san is asleep, so it would probably be better if I came to you.

Since you're the birthday boy, I'll treat you today. I earned some extra sylvs yesterday by completing a task.

[ So don't be surprised if she has traces of glitter on her anywhere. ]

You know where I stay, so you can meet me here. I'll leave Cherryblod-san a note letting him know I'll be out for a while.

Alright, I'll be over there in a little bit! [Best to not show up on their doorstep while in his sleepwear and all.

It's a careful process of trying not to make too much noise as he slips into real clothes and washes up minimally, but he's able to do so without taking too much time, and soon he's exiting out in the crisp air of Verens at night.

The walk to the place Komaru and Cherryblod share is not particularly long, especially since he knows the path by heart by now, so Naegi arrives relatively fast. Since Cherryblod might still be sleeping, he chooses to contact his sister by crystal once more.] I just got here, Komaru. I'll wait for you outside.

Coming! [ Is her cheerful reply, and in a matter of minutes, she's outside. However, unlike Naegi, she hadn't opted to change out of her sleepwear, instead putting a jacket over her pajamas. When she sees her brother dressed in casual clothes, she can't help but feel a bit sheepish, but...oh well, she's not going back inside to change. She's sure people won't really mind her being in her pajamas, given that it's early in the morning anyways. ]

So, birthday boy! Where do you wanna go?

Ah, Komaru, you could've taken a minute to change...! [He's really just worried she'll catch a cold, but he smiles at her fondly all the same.]

Aren't you supposed to surprise me for my birthday? [There's a teasing lilt to his voice, but he lets it become something softer.] I'd really be happy with anywhere that I get to spend time with you. That's my real present.

If you want me to pick, though... I know a lot of places are probably closed right now, so... Hmm. [He pauses to think for a minute, then grins broadly.] Maybe, somewhere with a clear view of the sky? We never got to see the stars much because of all the light pollution.

[And if Enoshima was right back then, the other kind of pollution will probably keep them from seeing it for good. But he isn't going to think about things like that during the first few hours of his birthday.]

In bet here in Empatheias, there has to be a good spot somewhere for taking a look at them.

O-Onii-chan... [ ...She's not crying, she just has something in her eye; fortunately, before she breaks out completely in tears, she manages to compose herself, clearing her throat as if nothing happened at all. That's right, everything is perfectly fine and normal, and she wasn't getting emotional whatsoever. No way. But she admits herself in a quieter tone: ] ...I'm happy just being able to spend time with you, too.

[ She appreciates Naegi a lot more now, since her experiences in Towa City; that isn't to say that she didn't appreciate him from the very beginning, but she had taken their relationship for granted. Before the Tragedy, she had no reason to believe she would never be able to see her brother again; however, when she went through her ordeal, she always had that fear looming over her head of whether she would live to be reunited with her brother. And now that she knows he experienced a mutual killing game, she's sure he thought the very same.

That's why, as long as they were here, she was sure to cherish whatever time she could have with her brother, because she never knew the day that would change. It was also why she had no qualms with expressing how much she loved her brother now; sure, she would still bicker with him and be bratty as usual - that was just her duty as a little sister - but she'd make sure to sometimes show him how much she appreciated him as well. ]

I should've expected you to say something sappy like that... [ Like now. She just has to tease him. ] ...but that sounds nice. We could go to the park? That probably has a clear view.

Ko- Komaru...! [Naegi flushes darkly, completely embarrassed now. But in spite of being so flustered, he adverts his eyes and speaks quietly.] I-it's still true, though... And I'm glad we're able to be together here. [He finishes with a smile that's a little shy, turning his gaze back to her.]

The park sounds perfect, though. [Naegi lets himself get a little excited about it even, smile shifting to a grin.] Maybe it's lucky that we ended up here after all... Finding a place to look at stars was so hard back home!

That's true. There was hardly anyplace at home that had the perfect view.

[ She bundles her jacket closer to her, then looks at her brother. ]
